It gives me immense pleasure to announce the release of the very first issue of "Indian Journal of Drugs in Dermatology." The idea of bringing out this journal was conceived some months back and this has become a reality after the painstaking and persistent efforts of our member, Dr. Sushil Pande, with the support and able guidance of our senior teacher Dr. Uday Khopkar. I congratulate Dr. Sushil Pande and his editorial team for this venture and wish them all the best!

With a plethora of drugs being used as well as misused in dermatology, this journal is definitely the need of the hour for focusing attention on drug development in the Indian scenario. A number of new topical and systemic drugs and their combinations are being added to Indian pharmaceutical market. Although approved by the apex regulatory body of Government of India, that is, Drug Controller General of India, dermatologists are less aware of their scientific rationale or the pharmacologic basis of these drugs. This journal intends to help dermatologists to understand the efficacy of drugs in a scientific manner. In addition, the journal will focus on adverse cutaneous reactions and systemic toxicity of various drugs relevant for dermatology practice. The journal will be an ideal platform for all Indian as well as non-Indian dermatologists for publishing their articles on safety, efficacy, and rationale of various drugs used by dermatologists in their day-to-day practice. At present, there is no such journal in India which is dedicated to drugs in dermatology.

I am very happy that Maharashtra branch of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) has taken up this initiative to start and support this journal. This is another feather in the cap of Maharashtra IADVL branch and unique contribution from our side to the national IADVL. The journal will be available to the members of Maharashtra IADVL in the print form (hard copies) and will be available online to other dermatologists from India and abroad. Maharashtra IADVL is a strong dermatology organization with more than 1000 qualified dermatologists in its fold, and I am sure that they will wholeheartedly support this new journal. I am also confident that Dr. Sushil Pande and his editorial team will get all essential support and help from all dermatologists from India and abroad which will take this journal to new heights. I wish him and his team all the best!
